1.      Does this service replace the statewide courier service?

No, COKAMO is an add-on service to the Colorado Library Courier. COKAMO specifically refers to delivery of materials to participating Missouri and Kansas libraries through the Colorado Library Courier instead of by US Mail.

2.      When can my library start using COKAMO?

Complete the signup, then review the documents on the COKAMO web site, finally perform the necessary updates and you're ready to start..

3.      Is there a cost involved?

No additional cost is involved. COKAMO is part of your Colorado Library Courier service.

4.      Do both the sender and receiver have to be OCLC members?

No. Eventually anyone on the Colorado Library Courier can use COKAMO to send to libraries in Missouri and Kansas. We are advertising the service to OCLC libraries to start with, so we can work the kinks out in the new delivery system. Plans are underway to add SWIFT and other resource sharing systems later this year.

5.      Are only OCLC-generated ILLs eligible?

No, anyone can use COKAMO. We are starting out with OCLC, but will soon expand the service. The survey we asked you to fill out is designed to create OCLC local holding groups to facilitate reciprocal borrowing between the three states. You can use COKAMO to send DOCLINE or any other interlibrary loan materials as long as you follow the labeling instructions.

6.      Do I need to count COKAMO usage?

Yes, you will be asked to record the interlibrary loans you send or borrow on COKAMO on the agreement you fill out each year with the Colorado Library Courier. Sample ILL tracking form.

7.      Is COKAMO labeling and packaging different from material sent to a Colorado library?

Yes, a full US Mail address label with a COKAMO designation is required; please refer to the instructions on the web site. Packaging remains the same.

8.      Do I put the COKAMO materials in my regular courier tote?

Yes.

9.      Will COKAMO save my library money?

Yes, given the average one-way interlibrary loan shipment costs $4.00, COKAMO is expected to save Colorado libraries $125,000 the first year. As more items move between the three states (via the courier rather than US Mail), the costs savings should increase.

10.  How do I participate in a reciprocal borrowing OCLC group?

COKAMO is creating two OCLC local holding groups. You join a group by filling out the survey at http://tinyurl.com/cokamo-survey. OCLC requires libraries to sign up before they can be added to a new local holding group.

Libraries have two reciprocal borrowing choices on the survey:

a.       Library Custom Holding Group #1: Libraries who join this group will be added to a group that loans materials at no cost to other libraries in the group, not including audiovisual materials.

b.      Library Custom Holding Group #2: Libraries who join this group will be added to a local holdings group to loan materials at no cost to other libraries in the group, including audiovisual materials.
