CLiC Board Membership Guidelines
A. Eligibility to vote for Board Members
- Elections will take place so that new Board members may assume their duties on July 1st.
- The CLiC Board determines each year how and when to conduct the vote.
- Only full members of CLiC are eligible to vote.
- Ballots are sent to the voting representative for all CLiC members.
B. Terms of current members
- Board members serve 3 year terms.
- Board members may run for re-election to a second term.
C. Method of selecting candidates
- At the January meeting, Board members will create a Nominating Committee.
- The Nominating Committee will consist of two Board members, including the in-coming Chair, and one member librarian not on the Board.
- Voting may be conducted in person or via mail, fax or e-mail.
- If there are more candidates than open positions, candidates from the same region and the same type of library will be paired on the ballot to maintain the balance of Board representation.
- Nominations will be solicited from a number of sources as determined by the Board and Nominating Committee.
- The slate will be presented to the CLiC Board for approval prior to the election.
- The Nomination Committee will consider types of libraries and geographic representation when selecting candidates for the Board
- The CLiC Board MUST have the following balance:
- 2 representatives from public libraries
- 2 representatives from school libraries
- 2 representatives from academic libraries
- 1 representative from a special library
- Geographic representation should be roughly: Front Range and Plains; Western Slope; and the Metro Denver area
- Every attempt will be made to have at least two people representing each of the broad geographic regions as outlined above.
- Candidates do not have to be librarians but must represent the member library.
- The CLiC Board MUST have the following balance:
- The Nominating Committee should strive for as much diversity as possible with regard to type of library, geographic area, and size of library.
- The first priority is the type of library representation is required.
- The second priority is geographic representation.
- The third priority is size of library, aiming for one large and one small public; one large and one small academic, and one large and one small school.
D. Resignations before the end of term
- If a Board member resigns, the CLiC Board can choose to appoint someone from the same type of library and broad geographic area or wait until the next election.
- If the CLiC Board chooses to appoint someone, that person must stand for election in the following spring to a full 3-year term.
- If the Board Chair resigns, the Vice-Chair takes over as Chair at the next regular Board meeting.
