Nearby Hiking Trails (from nearest to farthest)
Green Mountain From Sheraton: Turn
left (south) on Union and right (southwest) on Alameda
Parkway. The parking area will be approximately 1.6 miles
on your right.
Three main trailheads provide parking and access to the
park. These are located on West Alameda Parkway at West
Florida Drive and West Utah Avenue and at Rooney Road
a half mile north of Alameda Parkway. There are two main
trails: a 6.4-mile Green Mountain Trail Loop and the 3.1-mile
Hayden Trail Loop. The park is open all year. Park hours
are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Matthews Winters From Sheraton: Turn
right (north) on Union Blvd. Stay in left lane and turn
left (west) at 6th Avenue. In 2.6 miles, merge onto I-70
W toward GRAND JCT. Take the CO-26 E exit- EXIT 259- toward
RED ROCKS PARK. Turn left onto CO-26, go under the I-70
overpass. The parking lot for Matthews Winters is 0.1
miles down the road on your righ, just south of I-70.

Matthews/Winters Park and the adjacent Hogback provide
a haven for wildlife viewing and hiking. This is also
a popular mountain biking destination. Please be aware
that parking is limited particularly during the late afternoon/early
evening hours and weekends. Trail connections through
Denver's Red Rocks Park extend the park south to Bear
Creek Canyon.
You may access the Hogback and Dakota Ridge Trail from
the parking area.

Dinosaur Ridge- Dakota Ridge Trail
From Sheraton: same directions as Matthews Winters but
park in the “Park & Ride” Lot across the
street (CO 26) from the Matthews Winters Parking lot.
The hogback dramatically separates the mountains and the
plains with it's twisted folds of geologic history. On
the eastern face of the Hogback dinosaur imprints are
interpreted by the Dinosaur Ridge Visitor Center.

Trading Post

From Sheraton: Same directions as Matthews Winters but
continue down road to the first Red Rocks Parks Entrance.
Red Rocks trail is several miles long and ends in Matthews
Winters Park. The parking lot for the trail head is on
your left a bit of a way down after the first Red Rocks
park entrance off CO 26. If you continue on, you will
get to the amphitheater. Another trail can be found if
you follow the signs to the Trading Post. Park at the
Trading Post parking lot. The two ends of the loop trail
start at each side of the parking lot.

Mount Falcon From Sheraton: Same directions
as Matthews-Winters but continue on past Red Rocks Park
until you get to the main road in Morrison. Turn right
in Morrison. Turn left on Highway 8. East access is available
from Colorado Highway 8 south of Morrison. Continue past
the Morrison Natural History Museum and keep your eyes
peeled for a brown park sign that says Mount Falcon Park.
Turn west on Forest Avenue and north on Vine Avenue. There
is a large parking lot at the trailhead.

Lookout Mountain- Windy Saddle Park
Take 6th Avenue West. Turn left at the light onto Lookout
Mountain/Lariat Loop Road (to the right it is 19th Ave.
which leads to Golden and the Colorado School of Mines).
Look for trailheads along the road. The Windy Saddle trailhead
is part way up the mountain (10 or 15 minutes). The parking
area is on the right side of the road and there is a large
stone wall with a sign at the trailhead.

Mount Galbraith Take 6th Avenue west.
Turn right on State Highway 93. When you reach the northern
side of Golden, take Golden Gate Canyon Road west approximately
1.5 miles to the parking area and trailhead. Some more
wonderful hiking areas can be found if you continue down
the road to White Ranch Park or even farther to Golden
Gate Canyon State Park. The state park charges a fee.

Apex Park From Sheraton: go west on
6th Avenue. Continue past the C-470 turn-off. Turn left
on Heritage Road (there is a light there; to the right
is Jefferson County Parkway). Continue until you go past
the fire station on the right. Turn in to the parking
area right after the fire station. East access is on the
northeast corner of the Heritage Square parking lot (US
Highway 40 at County Road 93).
