Overview
Under the guidance of Rotary District Governor, Jan Williams, a program has been established to connect Colorado Rotary clubs with local libraries. The program calls on the generosity of Rotary Clubs to offer financial support for children’s book collections in libraries as one of their service projects this year. The current President of Rotary International has focused his service year on three topic areas, and these will be the areas of concentration for these donations. The areas are Education/literacy; Health/hunger; and Nature/water resources.
Each club will decide whether or not they wish to participate. For those willing clubs, the goal is a $300 contribution ($100 in each of the three topic areas.) Clubs may choose to support this goal, or contribute more or less.
Clubs have been notified about this program via communication from their District Governors, but if that communication was missed, we request that the following form be filled out so the Club/Library connection can be made based on the proximity of the club to the requesting library:
Rotary Club Form. (Libraries have already submitted a request for support via a form that was due March 1.)
The District Governors will make a connection between clubs and libraries during the month of March. The club and library contacts will be notified in early April with the information needed to contact each other. Once the connection is made, Rotary Clubs and Libraries can work out the financial arrangements between themselves. Libraries will then be able to choose books from a bibliography of books that has been compiled on the three focus areas. Special thanks to Donna Miller, Karol Sacca and her staff, and Eileen Jones for their help in compiling the bibliography.
Libraries that are funded through their Rotary Club will insert a Rotary bookplate in all donated books. The bookplate is available here to be printed on an 8164 Avery Label: Rotary Bookplate. In addition, library staff will put up a display in the library with the donated books identifying their Rotary Club. Library staff is also willing to come to a Rotary Club meeting to present a program on libraries.
All connections and donations need to be documented and reported on the following form: Rotary-Library Follow-up. An evaluation of the program will be sent out in early summer.
Documents are in word format (except where noted) and will open in separate windows/tabs. Please print out forms and when appropriate, submit them according to directions on the form.
